Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to every purchase from Starbound Letters ("Starbound", "we", "us") through this website. By placing an order you agree to them, together with our Returns & Refunds, Shipping & Delivery and Privacy policies.

1. What we sell

Starbound creates handmade letters, One-Liner cards, custom pieces, Pet Portrait Cards, keepsake coins and handmade paper art. Letters and cards are personalized at your request, signed on your behalf if you ask, and mailed directly to the recipient you name.

2. Ordering

An order is placed when you complete checkout and is accepted when we send the order confirmation. We may decline or cancel an order — for example if a product is unavailable, a payment can't be verified, or the content requested breaches section 4 — and will refund anything already paid.

Prices are shown in US dollars. Applicable taxes are calculated at checkout. Shipping within the United States is free; other destinations are charged as shown at checkout.

3. Personalization is your responsibility

We reproduce the names, notes, addresses and other details you enter exactly as you enter them. Please check spelling and the recipient's mailing address before ordering; we cannot replace a piece free of charge because of a mistake in the details you provided. Our own mistakes are always corrected free of charge — see the Returns & Refunds policy.

4. Custom pieces, your words and your photos

For Custom Letters, Custom One-Liners and Pet Portrait Cards we prepare a design for your approval. Production starts once you approve it; please allow up to 10 days from approval before the piece is mailed. Approval is your confirmation that the wording and artwork are correct.

By submitting words, a name or a photo you confirm that you have the right to use them and that they do not infringe anyone else's rights. We may decline, without explanation, content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, or that we consider inappropriate for a handmade keepsake, and we will refund that order. You keep ownership of the words and photos you provide; you grant us a licence to use them solely to make and deliver your order.

5. Santa Letters

Santa Letters are a keepsake written in the voice of Santa Claus and signed on his behalf. You choose when the letter is mailed — as soon as it is ready, in early December or in mid-December. Orders placed by December 10 have the best chance of arriving before Christmas; carrier delivery times are outside our control and cannot be guaranteed.

6. Keepsake coins

The Santa Coin and the Always Coin are available only together with a letter or card and are not sold separately. They are decorative keepsakes, not currency, and are not suitable for young children unsupervised.

7. Handmade paper art

Every sheet is made by hand. Fibre, pattern, translucency, colour and deckled edges vary from sheet to sheet; the photographs on this site are representative, and such variation is the character of the material rather than a defect.

8. Delivery

Delivery times shown on the site are estimates. Risk in the goods passes to you (or your recipient) on delivery. Our Shipping & Delivery policy explains production times, tracking and what happens if an order is lost or damaged in transit.

9. Returns and refunds

Personalized items are made to order and cannot be returned or exchanged once production has begun, except where we have made a mistake or the item arrived damaged. Handmade paper art may be returned within 14 days. Full details, including cancellation windows, are in our Returns & Refunds policy, which forms part of these terms.

10. Our content

The Starbound name, star, letter texts, One-Liner designs, photographs and the design of this website belong to Starbound Letters or are used under licence. They may not be copied, reproduced or used commercially without our written permission. Purchasing a letter or card gives you the physical piece for personal use, not the right to reproduce its text or artwork.

11. Accounts and website use

If you create an account you are responsible for keeping your login details private and for activity under your account. You agree not to misuse the site — for example by attempting to access it in unauthorised ways, interfering with its operation, or placing orders with false information.

12. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under applicable consumer law. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including postal disruptions and severe weather.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Starbound Letters is established, and any dispute will be handled by the courts of that state, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections where you live.

14. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force when you place an order is the one that applies to it.
